WYCOMBE district councillors have backed a scheme whereby council tenants and people on the housing waiting list get cash in hand if they agree to move to Yorkshire.
As reported in Midweek's sister paper the Bucks Free Press, Kirklees, Huddersfield, has council houses going begging, while Wycombe district has 1,000 families on its housing waiting list.
The idea was put forward by Peter Cartwright, chairman of the Wycombe District Council's housing and economic development committee.
The committee endorsed the idea, but with warnings that the council must do all it could to link people moving north with jobs there.
Tenants will get a cash grant from the district council based on the size of house they leave, while people on the waiting list will be given £500.
