TOP celebrities have been lined up to promote a police campaign aimed at lowering the number of horse rider deaths on our roads.

London's Burning actor Glen Murphy and Olympic eventer Ginny Elliott will help officers from Thames Valley Police's Mounted Section and Traffic Department stress the importance of rider road safety.

The campaign will encourage drivers to slow down through increased speed enforcement and by raising awareness among the motoring public about the dangers of excess speed.

More than half of all accidents involving horses happen on minor roads and the British Horse Society believes there are 3,000 collisions involving horses every year.

Since 1998 three people have been killed in the Thames Valley area in horse-related collisions and three were seriously injured.

The campaign will be launched at the Oxford Riding School today.
