SIXTH-FORM students have donated the profits from their Young Enterprise company to orphaned children in Egypt.

Kerry Munro, 17, from Pipers Corner School, Great Kingshill, presented Phillip Bratherton with a cheque to put toward the Sunshine Orphanage Appeal.

Pipers Corner School security officer Phillip and his wife Brenda, stumbled across the Sunshine Home for Orphaned Children while on holiday in Luxor, Egypt.

They were so moved by the plight of the children and the efforts made by the home that the couple started charity initiatives back at the school.

Brenda said: "We feel we were somehow meant to find the home. As we got ready to leave after our amazing first meeting we pledged to return. A cold shiver went up and down my back as I took down the home's address 371, Television Street.

"We knew that fate had dealt us a sure hand as we walked back to our hotel, room 371 at the Hilton Hotel."

To date the Brathertons and students at Pipers Corner School have raised £6,000 for the Sunshine appeal.

Headteacher Valerie Stattersfield said: "The project has certainly caught the imagination of the girls here at Pipers and we are delighted to support it."

Other fundraising efforts by pupils have included a Christmas Fayre and a sponsored walk.
