TOWN MAYOR Mahboob Hussain is one step closer to his Mayor Appeal goal of buying a cardiac ultrasound machine for Wycombe Hospital.
The Mayor's Ball of dancing and dining drew more than 150 people to the Town Hall on Queen Victoria Road last Saturday.
Rock band Some Like it Hot were invited along to entertain the guests who enjoyed dinner and wine after the Mayor gave a speech thanking everyone for their support.
Wycombe District Council Chairman David Cox and Derek Done, Mayor of Marlow also joined in the fun, helping to raise over £2,500 for the ultrasound machine.
Cllr Hussain said: "It was a fantastic evening and everyone enjoyed the band and the food immensely. I am sure now that we will reach our target of £35,000 which is what this new equipment from the U.S. will cost."
Cllr Hussain decided to choose the Wycombe Hospital's cardiovascular unit as his appeal charity after he met the late Dr Gordon Hendry, a consultant cardiologist at Wycombe Hospital, just after he took up office in May last year.
He said: "I was extremely impressed with his work with the cardiovascular team up at the hospital."
"It is also an issue very close to my heart as I have lost a lot of family members due to heart problems.
He added: "This new machine will save a lot of lives and so it is an incredibly worthy cause. I hope that the rest of our events are just as successful and we make our target."
Tickets were £37 and a raffle and tombola were also held raising a further £1,200.
