A REPRESENTATIVE from the staff finance union UNIFI visited the NatWest Account Management Centre this week to speak to employees affected by its closure.

The 110 part-time and full-time staff at the centre in Oxford Road, High Wycombe, were officially told of the closure at 5pm last Wednesday. The centre will close at the end of June.

Around 30 corporate banking managers, also based at Oxford Road, will stay on.

The work carried out by the centre, which includes dealing with direct debits and standing orders, will transfer to Milton Keynes where 50 new jobs will be created.

Clare Moody, negotiating officer with UNIFI, said: "We have been assured that every effort will be made to avoid compulsory redundancies and we will be supporting all those affected at what is a difficult time."

She confirmed that NatWest had organised a job fair on Tuesday whereby local businesses within the Royal Bank of Scotland group, which owns NatWest, would be discussing the opportunities available.

A spokesman for NatWest said it hoped to redeploy as many staff as possible within a reasonable commuting distance of High Wycombe.
