WORRIED Alan Smith says the sides of the River Wye are very low and it has burst its banks several times already.

Mr Smith, of Windsor Hill, Wooburn Green, attended Wooburn Parish Council meeting on Tuesday and told councillors that he wanted something done about it.

He said: "My main concern is the River Wye from Holtspur to Windsor Hill. That stretch has lower banks than I have ever seen. The water is so high that it is very dangerous."

Mr Smith told the parish council meeting that the river needs to be cleared in order to slightly improve the situation.

Cllr Dinnie Hawthorne, who lives near the river, said: "The Environmental Agency phoned me up and told me the River Wye was its highest since 1920 and this is the unusual circumstances of the whole of the country."

Chairman Cllr Julia Langley said: "There has been a certain amount of clearing the river but not to the degree it should have been done.

"We will write a letter and see what can be done."
