SIR Steve Redgrave will have to share the limelight with a giant sundial when a larger than life statue of him is put up in Higginson Park.

Six sculptors are busy coming up with designs for the statue of Sir Steve with a suggestion for the location being down on the riverside.

Meanwhile the £200,000 sundial has been donated to the town by commercial property developer Akeler, following their renovation of the old Rank Xerox site in Globe Park as a goodwill token.

Martin Andrew, Wycombe District Council's conservation officer, said: "The two are equally important to the town and we will need to think very carefully about where we place both and not make any rash decisions."

Cllr James Campbell said: "There will be room for both of them in Higginson Park."

After a meeting of interested parties on March 16, it was decided the future ownership of the sundial should be the responsibility of the Higginson Park Trust.

Planning permission will now have to be sought from Wycombe District Council for both objects which should both be in place by this autumn.

Higginson Park, which was donated to the town by celebrated General Sir George Higginson, also had a maze to celebrate the millennium built within its grounds last year.

Wycombe District Council is planning to publish a management plan for Higginson Park later in the year.
