FA CUP fever is spreading like wildfire through the streets of High Wycombe.

Young and old alike are pulling out all the stops to show the town and indeed the whole country that they are behind the football heroes who they believe will make history this weekend.

Charity fundraiser Pop Poppleton is an ardent Wanderers supporter and said the team has already done the town proud.

"They are a superb bunch of athletes and I am delighted they have come this far. Anything more, and I'm sure there will be more, will be a bonus."

Businesses the length and breadth of High Wycombe have been busy dressing their own special window displays in support of the mighty team.

Wanderers supporter and manager of GA Wood Mens Clothing in High Street put his Free Press 'Come on you Blues' poster in his shop window.

"I think the lads will give a fantastic show and should be incredibly relaxed after their few days in Spain," he said. "I'll probably be watching the game at home or may pop into the Royal British Legion. After their superb clash with Leicester there's no doubt it'll be a quality game."

Staff at Marks and Spencer in Church Street, High Wycombe, devoted an entire window display to the team.

Visual display co-ordinators, Julie Cook, Melanie Tifford and Claire Davie, have made sure shoppers know exactly where they are with their window display of dolls in the full Blues kit at the store's entrance.

Phil Lyons, store manager, said he could not let such a huge achievement pass unheeded.

"We initially put up a supportive banner but then thought that the lads deserved a bit more support than that. It's the first time we have come so far and maybe the last time in a long while so it needs to be aknowledged and celebrated properly."

Carol Wright, owner of Just Wright fabric shop of Priory Road, High Wycombe, and her assistant Jill Simmonds, of Bourne End, combined their Wycombe spirit with their creative spirit and came up with their window 'altar' to the team.

"We are Wycombe people and want to show the team we are behind them. The whole family are revved up for the game, including my five-year-old grandson," said Mrs Wright, of Totteridge.

"It's a fantastic achievement. Wycombe needs a boost like this to bring people together and I just hope that people enjoy it as much as possible. Go on you Blues!" added Mrs Simmonds.

The Litten Tree, Frogmoor, is planning a big show on the day with two big screens on either side of the bar and an outdoor barbecue so fans don't have to miss a moment of the big event.

The Firmanent and Firkin is enticing fans with four pint jugs of Tetley Smooth and Carlsberg at bargain prices.
