A TRAUMATISED ex-soldier who was in a brawl between Welsh and England Rugby supporters has had his prison term reduced.

Sean Louis Gallagher, 30, of Campbell Close, High Wycombe, pleaded guilty to affray at Aylesbury Crown Court last October.

Gallagher won a cut in his 15 month prison term at London's Criminal Court of Appeal last Friday when it was reduced to 12 months.

Mr Justice Bell, sitting with Judge Michael Allen, reduced the jail term after hearing that Gallagher was experiencing post traumatic shock syndrome after time spent serving as a soldier in Northern Ireland.

The court heard the fight took place outside a High Wycombe pub between a large number of 'home' and 'away' supporters on March 4 last year at the game between England and Wales.

After an exchange with a Wales supporter, Gallagher picked up a glass, which was snatched away from him before he could use it as a weapon. Gallagher, who had been drinking heavily and is unable to remember it, was recorded assaulting an opposing supporter on CCTV cameras.

Mr Justice Bell initially ruled that the 15 month sentence was neither wrong in principle or too long.

But he reduced the term to 12 months, saying he saw some merit in the argument that the Judge had overestimated the extent of Gallagher's participation in the fight.
