TRANSVESTITE Raymond Bowler was caught speeding but said that the microwaves from the speed camera had "messed with his head".

Bowler appeared at Wycombe Magistrates Court on Monday in a polka-dot blouse and pink skirt, matching pearl necklace and earrings and gold sandals.

The 50-year-old, who makes sculptures out of junk, pleaded guilty to speeding at 37mph in his Citroen in Little Marlow Road, Marlow, in a 30mph zone.

Clerk to the court Nigel Rennell read out a statement that Bowler had been caught on the camera at around 10.05pm on February 12.

Bowler, of Tintagel, in Cornwall, who has been dressing in lady's clothing for the past ten years, told the court he had been driving to a friend's house in Chesham when he saw the camera flash.

He told the court he was making his way along the Little Marlow Road after posting a Valentine's Day card and was aware of feeling "extremely strange, disorientated and disconnected".

Bowler said: "Of late I have become very sensitive to electro-magnetic pollution and it is upon this that I wish to focus."

But chairman of the magistrates, Alan Frost, said: "We are not here to decide where speed cameras are put. We are dealing with the simple fact you exceeded your speed limit."

He asked why Bowler had come before a court when he could have paid a £60 fixed penalty notice.

Bowler replied: "I have led a very different life to other people."

Mr Frost told Bowler that he would have his licence endorsed with three penalty points, fined him £60 and ordered him to pay £35 costs.
