SUPERVISOR Ghulam Khan has spoken of his disgust after a parking warden slapped a £60 fine on his car windscreen just inches from where a valid ticket was displayed.

And Mr Khan says that unless he takes time off work to sort the "mess" out he may be forced to pay for the fine.

The 35-year-old manufacturing supervisor, of The Pastures, Downley, bought a £1 ticket, valid for one hour, when he parked his blue Escort on Priory Avenue, High Wycombe, last Tuesday, before making a trip to the bank.

But when he came back just 15 minutes later he found a parking ticket on his windscreen.

"It made me so angry," he said. "There are so many people who don't bother with tickets but now I don't blame them. Even when you try to stay within the law and do something right you still end up getting done."

Mr Khan spotted another warden across the road and showed him his valid ticket but he said there was nothing he could do but call the Castle Street based ticketing office.

"They said I had to come to their office with the correct ticket but it's disgraceful I have to take time off work, even fork out for another parking ticket, because of their stupid mistake," he said.

"As it stands I'll have to pay £60 or £30 if I pay by August 14. I've paid out for phone calls, wasted time and worry and have been left incredibly angry without getting as much as an apology. It's pathetic."

A spokesman for Buckinghamshire County Council said: "It is not normal procedure that we ask motorists to come in to the office. It states on the ticket they should put any appeal in writing.

"Sometimes it happens that someone may be mistakenly fined if a ticket falls off the window or is not visible but we will investigate it fully when we get the details in writing."
