MARLOW'S first snowy owl to be bred in captivity this year has been named by Free Press readers.

Two of the owls hatched last month at Thames Valley Falconry Centre, in Little Marlow Road, Marlow, and it was down to our readers to name one of them.

One is leaving for Amsterdam but the other will join the team of exotic display birds at the centre.

The winning name, Tundra, was suggested by Phil Horwood, of High Wycombe.

James Bradbury, an apprentice falconer at the centre, said: "We chose the name just because we thought it was appropriate to the bird and it related directly to where they live in the wild."

Tundra is the flat, treeless Arctic region of Europe, North America and Asia.
