A PENSIONER who went missing from a care home has turned up safe and well in a London hospital after his son-in-law travelled 6,000 miles to help find him.

Bill William, 86, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, went missing from Halifax House, Applefield, Little Chalfont, at about 1pm on Saturday.

He was not seen again until British Transport Police found him on the London tube system and took him to a Hackney hospital on Tuesday.

Son-in-law Peter Fill, who lives with his wife and son in Seattle, USA, boarded the first plane to England when he heard Mr William had gone missing.

Mr Fill, 62, was extremely concerned as his father-in-law did not have any money to buy any food or drink.

He said: "He has only done this one time before. Then he was found really quickly. We've been waiting to get him into full-time care for about a year. He jumbles things up a bit but he is pretty coherent."

He added: "I managed to sleep a few hours last night. We are relieved."

Mr William, who has turned down an offer to move to America, last went walkabout in May. That time he was found in a train in Harrow, West London.
