COUNCILLOR Ken Ross honoured volunteers at a reception at County Hall.

The volunteers had all been nominated by county councillors and Cllr Ross, Buckinghamshire County Council chairman, took the opportunity to invite several volunteers from his own village, Flackwell Heath. His own wife, Nancie, qualified too, as chairman of Age Concern Bucks and for her work at Flackwell Heath Day Centre.

Cllr Ross, chairman of , said: "Without support from these volunteers many people, especially vulnerable people, would suffer."

Among the people honoured were Munir Hussain, vice chairman of Wycombe Council for Racial Equality, Audrey Lock, who has run Holtspur Youth Club for more than 20 years, and Andrew Paul nominated for his work for First Hedgerley Scouts.

Jessie Leighton, Great Missenden Society chairman, was the choice of the council's chief officer, Chris Williams and Harry Merryweather was honoured for running the Teddy Bears' Picnic in Fennel Wood and house-to-house collections for the RBL Poppy Day appeal.
