A VILLAGE is set to get back its famous Loch Ness monster after pub regulars and shoppers raised almost £500 for charity.

Villagers in West Wycombe have been mourning the loss of Wessie since the beast, made from tractor tyres and wood, was destroyed by vandals in February.

Pub manager Andy Dickinson, of the George and Dragon Hotel, High Street, West Wycombe, admitted introducing the beast to flooded fields and after the attack promised to resurrect the green giant if enough cash was raised.

Kind-hearted Andy said: "It's been great. So many people have put their hands in their pockets to get Wessie back. We raised £460 and it will all go to Comic Relief.

"Wessie will be coming back soon so watch out."

The money was raised by leaving a large bottle at the bar of the pub. Donations were also collected over the road at The Village Stores.

The original beast was put in fields, off Bradenham Road, in the dead of night on Saturday, February 17.

It caused an immediate stir, attracting schoolchildren during the half-term holidays, and it even got a mention from Capital Radio's Chris Tarrant.
