THAME United Football Club blew their chance of promotion to the Ryman Premier Division for the second year running when they had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Harlow Town at the Windmill Stadium on Saturday.

Andy Sinnott's men had looked on course to bag all three points and keep their promotion hopes alive, before they threw it away at the death.

Playing without the suspended Jefferson Louis, the injured Mark West and the unavailable Ian Moores, Thame still bossed the opening 45 minutes.

Mick Swaysland put the home side in front with just eight minutes gone, after latching on to Justin Merritt's cross from close range.

And they could have doubled their money just seconds later only to see Swaysland's header sail just wide.

But the Thame marksman found the target again four minutes before the interval when Harlow failed to clear the danger and Greg Williams was able to set up Swaysland for his second.

But Harlow weren't going to take it lying down and just four minutes into the second half had put themselves back in it when Marc Salmon returned keeper Chris Brain's punch with interest.

Thame spent the rest of the half defending, but couldn't hold out in the seven minutes of injury time the referee decided to play.

Some poor defending gifted the ball to Salmon who took his chance lobbing the stranded Brain.

And with all of Thame's nearest rivals enjoying victories, the Oxfordshire side were pushed down to fifth in Division One and out of the promotion race.
