FRIENDS fed up with just sitting in the pub have formed an action group to go out and have more fun.

The friends from Bourne End have formed Voyager which is open to anyone aged 20 to 25. One aim is to provide people with a way of staying in contact.

Chairman Karl Green said: "I'm looking forward to being able to meet up with everyone on a regular basis. As people go off to university and move away to get jobs they complain that they don't know anyone at home anymore.

"Voyager provides a base that people can come back to as often as they want to."

Voyager is being set up after changes were made which extended the age range of Venture Scouts and is part of the Scout network, but does not stick to activities usually associated with scouting.

Mr Green said: "Because the group is so new there are not really any restrictions. The group is totally led by its members and what they want to do."

Member Lucy Ward said she loves the group because of the variety it offers people.

She said: "I'm not that interested in really hard core activities like ice-climbing but I don't just want to sit in the pub either.

"I wanted to be able to join in with activities but not hold people back so I'm getting involved with things like paint-balling, go-karting and mountain biking."

Rob Searle, treasurer, said the group allows people to use their potential: "If someone wants to go on an expedition to Scotland that's fine and if someone just wants to organise a barbecue that's fine too. We're up for anything."
