A SCHOOL teacher who rescued an orphan from war-torn Vietnam in 1968 is being sought by a television producer.

Anthony Bathurst was living in High Wycombe when he took part in an orphan rescue effort undertaken by national charity Project Vietnam Orphans which was responsible for saving the lives of around 50 babies during the Vietnam War in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The first baby to be brought to Britain and then adopted was John Nuttall who now lives in Suffolk.

He was found when just a few days old on the steps of an orphanage in the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon.

But money was tight at Project Vietnam Orphans and they could not afford to send someone to rescue him.

It was here Mr Bathurst stepped in and volunteered at his own expense to travel to Saigon and return to Britain with the orphan.

Dick Meadows, a producer at BBC Television East at Norwich is now making a documentary about the plight of those involved and would like to track down Mr Bathurst.

Anyone who knows or remembers Mr Bathurst is urged to contact Mr Meadows at the BBC, All Saints Green, Norwich, NR1 3ND on 01508 538771 or e-mail him at Dick.meadows@bbc.co.uk
