TWO brothers have been honoured for their outstanding service with the 1940 Dunkirk Veterans Association with framed paintings by a specialist war artist.

Veterans Robin Rolt, of Harries Way, Holmer Green, and his brother Peter, of Skimmers End, Holmer Green, were presented with the pictures chronicling the scene painted by well-known war artist Charles Kundall.

James Bradley, chairman of the association until it closed last year, delighted in honouring the men for their years of devoted service as standard bearers for the High Wycombe and Mid Thames Branch, last Wednesday.

Mr Bradley, 81, of Penfold Lane, Holmer Green, told of his own honour in recruiting the ex-regular soldiers as official standard bearers who supported the association "over and above the call of duty.

"It was only fitting that these two men should be awarded for duties performed within the association," he said.

"They have been the focal point of all of our parades and made a major contribution to the branch not only at parades but in the welfare and support aspect which was an important part of the association's work.

"They would often be out all day during our collections and never hesitated when one of our comrades needed any help."

Dwindling numbers led to the association's closure in 2000, a few months after the service and unveiling of their Dunkirk Memorial in Castle Street, High Wycombe, on February 20 last year.
