THE tension is mounting after the polling stations closed at 10pm and the Bucks Free Press website is going to keep you up to date with all the news about your local constituencies.

Political editor Margaret Smith and reporters are posted at all the counts and are calling in to a team at the Bucks Free Press Offices to keep you up-to-date with the latest news.

Labour have held the first seat to be declared, Sunderland South, with a reduced majority. They have also held on to seats at Sunderland North and Hamilton South. Early indications show a low turnout. The BBC's exit poll has predicted another landslide victory for Labour but if the trend at Sunderland continued it won't be quite so bad for the Tories.

Margaret Smith and James Clements are at Wycombe, James Cox is posted at Amersham and Chesham, Syreeta Lund is reporting from Beaconsfield, Joe Slade is at Aylesbury and David Langton is at Maidenhead.

First report in comes from Syreeta at Beaconsfield.

She said: "It is really busy here and there is a steady stream of supporters coming through the doors."

One of the supporters of UKIP candidate Andrew Moffatt, said he will just be hoping to get his deposit back which is more than Blair did for the seat.

Philip Dunville, agent for Dominic Grieve said from the count that the candidate is sat at home having supper with his wife watching it on telly but will be going down to the count at 12.30am. He said it is a good Conservative seat but there is always a worry about it and they are hoping their majority will go up.

Mr Dunville also said the opinion polls don't really equate with their experience when it comes to the doorstep. When they go round to houses there are a lot of people who are Conservatives but won't admit to it in the polls.

Syreeta added: "The Conservatives appear to be pretty confident and are settling in for the night as they have hired out a room at the Curzon Centre, where the count is taking place, with comfy seats and a telly and are laying on a salmon and cakes buffet while the other telly room (a corridor) has a fuzzy TV."

Stay with us through the night and we will keep you posted.
