MEASURES to improve road safety are to be put in place after a National Society of Epilepsy (NSE) resident complained about a dangerous stretch of road outside the centre.
Martin Buckley, 25, who lives in semi-independent accommodation at the NSE in Chalfont St Peter, wrote a letter to Buckinghamshire County Council about the A413 after he said there had been a number of accidents involving pedestrians along that road.
He said: "There have been 23 accidents involving pedestrians and motorists on that stretch of road over the past three years. My idea is that by providing central refuges, pedestrians will be able to cross the road safely."
Martin Bolton, Traffic Management Officer for the Environmental Services section of the council, agreed and said they will be solving the problem.
He said: "Martin's proposals represent a sensible solution to what is obviously a concern to everyone in the local community. We have studied his suggestions and have decided to act upon them. We envisage that the project to install the central refuges on the A413 near Misbourne Avenue will be completed before the end of March 2002."
Graham Faulkner, Chief Executive at the NSE, said: "We and our residents are very much a part of the local community and we are delighted that Martin's proposal has met with such a positive response.
"As well as helping the local community, these proposals will ensure that NSE residents can build on their freedom and independence."
