MEASURES to improve road safety are to be put in place after a National Society of Epilepsy (NSE) resident complained about a dangerous stretch of road outside the centre.

Martin Buckley, 25, who lives in semi-independent accommodation at the NSE in Chalfont St Peter, wrote a letter to Buckinghamshire County Council about the A413 after he said there had been a number of accidents involving pedestrians along that road.

He said: "There have been 23 accidents involving pedestrians and motorists over the past three years. My idea is that by providing central refuges, pedestrians will be able to cross the road safely."

Martin Bolton, the council's traffic management officer, agreed and said they will be solving the problem.

He said: "We envisage that the project to install the central refuges on the A413 near Misbourne Avenue will be completed before the end of March 2002."
