A 60s themed knees-up helped raise more than £500 for an appeal to help the five children who lost their mothers in High Wycombe's horrific lorry crash.

Staff at the Wilkinson Sword building in Totteridge Road, High Wycombe, held the fancy dress event at Wycombe Heights Golf Club, High Wycombe, on Saturday.

The night was originally organised as a send off to one of the companies leaving the High Wycombe office block but following the town centre tragedy in June the group decided to raise funds for the Free Press/Aitchisons Appeal.

Jenny Brian, who works for Jenks Sales Brokers, helped organise a raffle at the shindig which played host to about 70 people.

She said: "There was lots of dancing, lots of eating, lots of drinking and lots of fundraising."

The Free Press launched the Aitchisons Appeal last month after a lorry crashed through the window of Aitchisons Estate Agents in Easton Street, High Wycombe, killing mothers Maggie Doel and Sally Jamieson.

Money raised is going towards the children of the victims.

Mrs Brian said: "It is times like this you realise the community you live in. As soon as people heard where the raffle money was going we had a lot support."

She added: "We normally do this a couple of times a year and donate money to a local charity. Because this incident happened in High Wycombe we felt we needed to do something for the children."

So far the appeal has raised more than £4,000 and almost two months after the accident donations are still flooding in.

Cheques made payable to "Doel and Jamieson Fund Ref MNE" should be sent to James Clements, Bucks Free Press, Gomm Road, High Wycombe, HP13 7DW.
