A SEA cadet unit which had faced closure was given a giant boost this week when it was visited by the former First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy.
Retired Admiral of the Fleet Sir Julian Oswald visited Marlow Sea Cadets, TS Apollo, on Tuesday evening as part of its annual inspection.
The unit, in Wethered Road, was recently under threat of closure due to declining numbers. But cadet bosses think they have finally now turned the corner after some new recruits stepped forward.
Lieutenant Carol Hale, Commanding Officer, said of Tuesday's visit by the admiral and his team: "They inspected the unit and had a good look round and the cadets did displays for things like seamanship.
"The admiral also presented an award to one cadet who got an electrical qualification. They all did very well."
Now, Lt Hale is appealing for more members of staff to help out due to the upturn in recruits.
"If there are any old cadets or members of staff who would like to get in touch we would be delighted to hear from them."
