PRINCES Risborough School is to get extra cash after being awarded Technology College Status by the Government.

The Department for Education and Employment awarded the school, in Merton Road, speciality status in recognition of its outstanding achievement.

The school is to receive a one-off grant of £100,000 as well as extra money for each pupil each year.

The new status will allow the school to provide specialist teaching in design and technology, maths, science and IT.

Headteacher Gaynor Hartle said: "This is terrific news for us all, especially for the students and their parents who have worked so hard."

The school had to submit proposals to the Government outlining how it was working with local businesses and how the benefits will be spread across the local community.

Aylesbury MP David Lidington, whose constituency includes Princes Risborough, wrote to ministers in support of the school's bid.

He said: "The headteacher should be extremely proud. Gaining specialist status will bring significant benefits to the education of its children and to members of the community."
