ROTARY District Governor John Chapman travelled more than 280 miles to collect money for an air ambulance.

The Thames Valley Air Ambulance has benefited from the efforts of all the Rotary Clubs in the Berks, Bucks, Oxon and north Middlesex areas, when John, of Marlow, drove round the counties to collect donations.

John said: "My target is to collect more than £10,000 for the air ambulance this year. All the Rotarians in the district are helping me achieve this target."

A total of £5,250 was collected for the service and rotary Clubs will continue to raise more money to help reach the target by holding various events.

John, who is also a trustee of the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust, left home at 6.30am last month for his drive-a-thon and travelled 280 miles in a day meeting rotarians on his way, returning to his home in Marlow at 9.30pm.

The Beaconsfield and Jordans Rotary Club joined in the fundraising effort and was able to give John a cheque towards the target.
