A BEACONSFIELD couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in style at a surprise party organised by friends.

The surprise reception was held at the Thursday Club, a lunch club in Beaconsfield, on July 24, to celebrate 65 years of wedded bliss for Gladys and Albert Bridges.

The couple live in The Ferns, in Beaconsfield, and Mr Bridges has always been a well-known figure around the town, working for many years as a window cleaner.

The couple used to organise dances in the Guide Hut in Malthouse Square during the 1960s, and were very keen dancers.

Their official anniversary was on July 4, and was celebrated with relatives in Felixtowe, Suffolk.

Olga McBride, an organiser at the Thursday Club, paid tribute to the longevity of Mr and Mrs Bridges' marriage.

She said: "They are a delightful couple and we wish them all the best.

"We were very pleased they were having a 65th anniversary not many of us make it that far."

The Thursday Club put on a party for the happy couple, and presented them with a cake and a plant.

Mrs McBride explained they could not find a forget-me-not, but chose the 'next best plant that was blue'.
