RESIDENTS have spoken out in favour of earth bunds built to keep travellers off a field.

The bunds have caused controversy in Holtspur, after being constructed around a field on the A40.

Chairman of the Beaconsfield Town Council planning committee Archie Legg, was reported in last week's Free Press as saying he had received complaints from residents who thought the bunds were bigger than planning regulations allowed.

But the report provoked a flood of letters from Holtspur residents in support of the earthworks.

The residents claim the bunds are effective in keeping travellers off the site, and cannot understand the complaints.

After a survey into the height of the bunds carried out by South Bucks District Council, a council spokesman said: "The bund is higher than two metres by millimetres in two points on the circumference. The discrepancy gives rise to no environmental harm whatsoever."
