A WOMAN with multiple sclerosis who has been living in a hostel since the summer faces another eviction if she cannot find new accommodation soon.

Joyce Ougham, 41, of Saunderton Hostel, Wycombe Road, Saunderton, applied to Wycombe District Council to be rehoused in July.

She wants to be rehoused in suitably adapted accommodation but the district council has refused.

Mrs Ougham, who often has to use a wheelchair because of her multiple sclerosis, said: "I just want to live as normal a life as possible."

But a spokesman for Wycombe District Council said Mrs Ougham had been deemed to be homeless intentionally from her previous residence and the council's policy is not to consider her for rehousing while there are priority cases awaiting rehousing.

But Mrs Ougham, a mother-of-three, said she had been evicted from her house in Slough by Slough Borough Council 12 months ago.

Mrs Ougham then spent time at a friend's house in Spearing Road, Cressex. But her ailing health led her to falling down the stairs and having to go to hospital.

A doctor there managed to get her into Saunderton Hostel, where she has been ever since.

Now Mrs Ougham says she just wants to lead an independent life.

Secretary of the High Wycombe and District branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Belinda Peddle said Mrs Ougham has suffered several relapses over the last few months.

Her GP has also written to the district council stressing that she should be rehoused as a priority. The council has given Mrs Ougham notice to leave and will accommodate her up to March 4, the day before her 42nd birthday.

If she fails to find alternative accommodation, the council will have to consider court proceedings to evict her.

A spokesman said social services have been informed.
