I WANTED to pay my respects through your newspaper after reading the sad news of the sudden death of Sgt Bill Snelling.

Bill was not only a professional colleague during my time as High Wycombe town centre manager, and Octagon's operations manager, but he was a great friend.

His dedication to duty and to the town as a whole was a tremendous example and he will be sadly and sorely missed.

Bill was a character rare in this world, and above all he was a real gentleman. His policing was respected throughout the police force and indeed those of us who had the pleasure to know him and be part of it.

It was logical, methodical, and always right in practice. Bill will live on in our memories and High Wycombe's proud history.
