DESPITE short showers of rain, Bourne End residents lined the streets to enjoy the first village fete to venture outside the community centre.

This was the first time the event has been held out of the centre's walls, in Wakeman Road.

Shops in The Parade joined in the fun and the funds raised from the day went towards repaying a loan used for the community centre roof.

All the stalls sold out by lunchtime and visitors enjoyed entertainment from High Hat Man, the Claytons School Band and numerous game stalls.

The Rotary Club of Bourne End and Cookham blasted off in its Rotary Rocket and offered rides to children outside the community centre.

The super raffle was drawn by Penny Walsh, president of the Community Association, and Lady Betty Chacksfield, widow of Sir Bernard who was a former president. The silver carriage clock created by Bourne End Jewellers went to a Mr and Mrs Avery from Fisherman's Way, Bourne End.
