HIGH Wycombe and Beaconsfield both took draws from their rain-affected matches in the Home Counties Premier League last weekend.

Beaconsfield were heading for their first win of the season when a heavy shower put paid to their hopes of a victory against Slough at Wilton Park on Saturday.

Having declared at 223 for four after 64 overs, Beaconsfield were then held up for an hour by rain, which reduced their chances of bowling out the visitors.

Just 35 overs were possible in the Slough innings and the match petered out to its inevitable conclusion with Slough struggling on 119 for five.

Beaconsfield picked up ten points to their opponents five.

Skipper Alistair Storie and Danny Drepaul gave them a flying start when they put on 135 for the first wicket in 48 overs.

Storie made 79 and Drepaul 54, while a late flourish from Martin O'Reilly allowed Beaconsfield to declare early.

Lee Mason and Denzil Owen picked up two wickets apiece for Beaconsfield, who were unable to press home their advantage.

Meanwhile, Wycombe's championship challenge continued to be stuck in second gear as they took 12 points from their draw with Basingstoke.

Batting first, Wycombe got off to a solid start with Jason Harrison and Matt Eyles scoring 103 for the first wicket from 38 overs.

When Harrison went for 48, Paul Sawyer took up the reins with 38 quick runs while Eyles progressed to 69 as Wycombe finished on 230 for seven.

Basingstoke responded at a gallop with 62 runs coming off the first 11 overs before a change of tactics brought a turnaround of fortune for Wycombe.

The twin introduction of Jarard Travaglia and Jamie Benning into the attack produced immediate results with the scoring rate drastically reduced and both openers dismissed.

Further successes for Travaglia left the visitors on 84 for five and needing 147 from 38 overs with five wickets left.

Basingstoke never tried to match the winning run rate of under four-an-over preferring to play out the remaining overs for a draw .

Wycombe struggled to exact any movement on a good batting pitch and collected just two more wickets as the match petered out to a draw.

The result kept Wycombe third in the table on 71 points, some way behind leaders Finchampstead who have 113.
