AMAZING Rose Ashton and Marcia Carroll have clocked up 210 years between them as they both celebrate their 105th birthdays.

The two pensioners who are both residents at the Swarthmore Residential Care in Marsham Lane, Gerrards Cross, each got a card from the Queen.

Rose, whose birthday was on Thursday, and Marcia whose birthday was on January 15 celebrated with a cake and flowers.

Marthese Attard, a care assistant at the home, said: "They are both so active, it is unbelievable.

"Marcia, who has been here 30 years, does a crossword every day.

"Rose loves to talk about her life. She is quite new to us and only came here in January. She used to live in the Chilterns and was involved with the Quakers.

"Rose said the secret of long life is to eat good food. She will eat a little but very often. She is a very slim lady. I would say that for Marcia it would be the crosswords."

Rose said she didn't get married as she was a "gifted teacher" and dedicated her life to her pupils, even protecting them during the Second World War.

Her parents were missionaries in India and by the age of nine she went to boarding school and rarely saw them. She was one of a family of six three sisters and two brothers, who were always very close.

Marcia has a daughter and grandchildren who live in America.
