HOW many residents of Beaconsfield are fed up to the back teeth with illegal signs pointing us to building developments in Beaconsfield? These signs are an eyesore and give the impression that we are living in one big building site!

The county council position is that an approved sign with the name of a development (eg Ledborough Gate) may be permitted if they are in close proximity to the development, eg, one or two streets away. What is not allowed is the profligate display of the developers name eg. Berkeley Homes, Nicholas King et al literally miles from the development. In one case signs for a development in Penn appear just off the M40 junction 2! In Ledborough Lane alone there were 13 such illegal signs.

Enough is enough and some volunteer town councillors will be taking steps to remove them personally. The whole town council is vehemently opposed to them . For a number of reasons, not the least of which are health and safety, I am not suggesting that local residents shin up the lamppost and tear down the signs themselves (although this would be understandable and forgiveable).

What local residents can do is bombard these developers with telephone calls and letters making it plain that we hold this practice and their company in the utmost contempt and force them to remove them and cease these unsavoury and environmentally hostile acts.
