OUTRAGED householders are pulling together to organise a petition objecting to car parking charges at Wycombe Sports Centre.

Residents with homes close to the leisure facility at Handy Cross, High Wycombe, say that since the introduction of charges in April people have been parking in their roads, blocking driveways and leaving a trail of litter.

Wycombe District Council claimed in December that despite adverse public comment when the charges were first introduced the situation had settled down and the system was working well.

Carol Niven, an administrator from Fair Ridge, High Wycombe, said: "A lot of people, instead of going into the car park come and park down our road. We have questioned them as to why they are not parking there and some have said they have got to pay the 20p.

"They park on both sides which does make it difficult sometimes for people to get on their drives. Nobody ever came round and asked us about the charges.

"They might think it is fine and dandy but we don't."

A district council spokesman said: "The scheme is generally working well and no changes are planned at present."
