HAVING fought against the John Lewis store development next door to us at Cressex, I sadly recognise the way things are progressing with the McDonald's application in London Road, Loudwater, and what the probable outcome will be.

At the time, we innocently believed that press, protests and petitions could make the powers that be listen to our arguments.

What we did not know was that when the news of the probable development was made public, the deal had already been done with Wycombe District Council.

Even right up to the final planning permission open meeting we thought we had a chance.

In fact, the committee was told by its chairman up-front, that any vote against the plan would be taken as a vote of no confidence in the planning department.

The vote went against us, and the rest is history.

I hesitate to say you are wasting your time; but sadly I'm afraid it's true.
