ROTARIANS have raised cash to pay for a special machine at Wycombe Hospital which can help monitor blood levels without the need to use a needle.

Great Missenden Rotary Club managed to raise £1,500 over the Christmas period which it donated to South Bucks NHS Trust.

The cash has bought a pulse oximeter for the children's ward which was officially handed over by rotary club president John Faircloth to the sister in charge, Ann Winter.

The state-of-the-art machine allows blood oxygen levels to be monitored through the skin without having to use a needle to draw blood, which many children find distressing.

Sister Winter thanked the rotary club at the official hand over of the equipment and said it would be very much appreciated by both staff and patients.

She added: "This equipment could play a vital role in the treatment of sick children and babies."

Cheques will also be presented to three local charities Wycombe Hospital Scannappeal, MacMillan Nurses and the Iain Rennie Hospice at a Rotary Awareness evening being held in the Market Hall, Old Amersham, on March 21.
