OLYMPIC gold medallist Sharron Davies was star guest at the UK launch of Poseidon a revolutionary new device to stop drowning in public pools.

David Cox, chairman of Wycombe District Council joined Frenchman Jerome Meniere, founder of the system, at the launch which attracted the nation's press to Wycombe Sports Centre, Handy Cross, High Wycombe, last Wednesday.

The Poseidon system is made up of a network of cameras mounted both above and below the pool's surface which allows constant pool surveillance.

Paul Marston Weston, head of leisure services at Wycombe District Council said: "We believe this technology will be an incredible tool to aid lifeguards in their dedicated efforts and if it saves just one life, it will be more than worth it."
