A PROPOSED internet caf could see its business hit following an announcement that the town library will install 20 internet terminals.

Cyberfield Ltd, the company behind proposals for a caf aimed at youngsters in Beaconsfield, is to assess the impact of Buckinghamshire County Council's decision to install on-line computers in the town library in the summer.

Beaconsfield town mayor Malcolm Dunlop, who is also chairman of the Cyberfield Committee, said he hoped the library would not be competition for Cyberfield as they did not plan to offer as many extras for customers.

He added: "We are afraid that a virtually free facility offered by the county council will take business away from us, but we are not too sure whether that facility will adversely affect us."

Cllr Dunlop also said that the library opening hours could further count against them being able to target potential cybercaf clients.

A spokesman for Buckinghamshire County Council said: "There is an initiative to get a total of 20 PCs in place from June onwards which is being done with lottery funding.

"There will be internet access on both floors so there should not be a problem with disabled access."
