GREEN-fingered council tenants are lining up to claim their prizes after the annual Tenants Garden Competition.

More than 90 entries were received for the Wycombe District Council competition, which dates back to 1978.

Cllr Bill Jennings, chairman of the council, said: "The aim of the competition is to encourage council tenants to maintain their gardens to a high standard, both for their own enjoyment and that of the general community.

"There are prize categories to cater for everyone, from those simply with window boxes to those with larger gardens."

This year's winner of the title of Master Gardener, a prize of £100 and the Morris Challenge Cup, went to David Kingham, of Glory Close, Wooburn Green.

Mr Kingham and other winners will be going along to a ceremony next month to be awarded with their prizes by Cllr Jennings.

The winner for the best Sheltered Housing Scheme, with a prize of £100 gift voucher for garden supplies, went to Coppice Farm Road Sheltered Scheme, in Tylers Green.

The award for Best Wildlife Garden, with a £100 in prize money, went to Wendy Collett of Oakland Way, Flackwell Heath.

Other categories included in the competition are Over 65s section, Best Garden of a tenant under 35 years, Small garden, window box, tub, basket and/or small border and the Best Garden, not exceeding 30ft by 30ft.
