HIGH Wycombe Cricket Club, who saw their National Knockout Cup semi-final rained off on Sunday, had some cheer the previous day with a league win over Basingstoke.

The London Road side saw off their Home Counties Division One rivals by 68 runs.

Basingtoke started their bowling session well, with good early control, taking two wickets in the first nine overs for only 22 runs.

Paul Sawyer (32) and Jamie Benning played well taking the score onto 100 before the next wicket fell after 23 overs.

Jarrard Travaglia came to the wicket and between him and Benning produced the best stand of the season of 145 in 30 overs.

Jamie Benning delighted the crowd with some powerful shots on his way to a maiden league century, finishing with 128 from 113 balls faced. Jarrard Travaglia played superbly in the supporting role scoring 56 not out.

Wycombe declared after only 53 overs to leave Basingstoke with 67 overs to score 246.

Accurate spells from Cole (1-32), Sawyer and Bird (2-19) saw Basingstoke reduced to 31 for three from 18 overs.

D & L Nurse produced the significant stand of the innings scoring 78 from 23 overs, before D Nurse was out for 35. L Nurse produced some fine shots, but had little support from the other end.

With the required run rate creeping up, a draw looked on the cards with Basingstoke 145 for four with 17 overs left.

Tom Scriven, who had been bowling accurately, then produced a devastating spell of five for 13 from 5.3 overs to finish the game with seven overs left.
