RESIDENTS are being urged to increase the security of their sheds and garages by reading a new advice leaflet aimed at cracking down on crime.
Police say that since May 1, there has been a significant increase in the number of sheds and garages broken into, especially in Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield and The Chalfonts.
Residents are advised to ensure all tools are locked away, to use good quality locks and to fit chicken wire or a grille to the inside of shed windows.
Police also advise homeowners to plant thorny shrubs under vulnerable windows or access routes.
Crime reduction officer Ray Reeder said: "It's the time of year when people tend to replace garden furniture and tools so it's a good time to review security."
The leaflets are available from police stations, council offices, B&Q, High Wycombe and Homebase, Loudwater.
