A CROWD had gathered outside the latest retail store in High Wycombe even before it officially opened its doors.
Director Barbara Wilkinson, daughter of the founder of family firm Wilkinson, cut the ribbon at the front of the store in the Chilterns Shopping Centre on Thursday.
Store manager Paul Steer thanked those involved in opening the store on schedule and most importantly the 80 staff.
He said: "Thank you for your commitment."
Mr Steer added: "Our mix of popular brands and high quality Wilko own brands of everyday items for the home and garden has made Wilkinson one of the fastest growing retailers in the country and High Wycombe will help ensure we remain Britain's best-loved shopping experience."
The store, in the former C&A shop, is the 191st to be opened by the Nottingham company, founded in 1930 by JK Wilkinson. The new outlet is part of Wilkinson's expansion in the south of England, with plans to have 250 stores nationwide by 2003.
Family fun began at 10am with Rodney the Dragon and continued on Saturday with Doodles Face Painting.
