RESIDENTS are saying no way to a one-way system and have vowed to fight a proposed scheme for the second time.

The plan for a traffic management scheme, which involves a one-way system around The Green, Wooburn Green, has now been raised from months in abeyance with the promise of a further consultation in September.

Attempts by Buckinghamshire County Council to introduce the scheme has been halted at every turn by protests from residents.

Jill Watts, who has organised petitions against the plan, wants to urge all residents to turn out in force at the consultation and give their views.

"We are prepared to protest and fight for the second time," explained the resident of The Green, Wooburn Green.

"Last time only a small number of the people living in the village gave their views. So the figures the council had were not representative of the village.

"But when they received our petition with more than 300 signatures they could not go ahead, because there was so much opposition."

The last traffic management scheme involves one-way clockwise traffic and four village gateways at Wycombe Lane and Town Lane on the A4094 and at Whitepit Lane and Holtspur Lane.

Other aspects include zebra crossings at each end of the A4094 and at Holtspur Lane, three raised areas of the road round the green called speed reduction tables, a relocated bus stop and a wider pavement on the surgery side of the green.

A county council spokesman said the consultation is planned sometime in September and the date will be announced.
