HIGH Wycombe Cycling Club had two top ten finishers in the Easter weekend's Lesley Cole Memorial ten mile open time trial held at Maidenhead.

Both Ian Welch and Dave Johnson claimed places in the top ten, taking seventh and eighth place respectively after finishing with just one second separating them.

Welch clocked 23 minutes, 24 seconds and Johnson 23.25min, to make sure the Bucks club were well represented at the top in the race contested by 70 riders.

The memorial trophy went to Ray Hughes (Clarence Wheelers/Tony Doyle Pursuits) who clocked 22 mins, 11 secs.

Former Wycombe rider James Mahoney, now with Team Clean/Freshstart, finished second just 35 seconds behind the winner.

Last year's winner Nick Stagg could only manage fifth spot, almost a minute down on the leader.

Wycombe's 14-year-old Stephen Ridgley, who was competing in his first open time trial, won the top schoolboy prize with a time of 30mins, 47secs.

Unfortunately, it wasn't such a good day for his 15-year-old club-mate Paul Dean who went off course and, likewise, Steve Pulley who lost a pedal in the last 100 yards.

Pulley jarred his foot in the incident, causing a hairline facture, but he still finished in 26min, 18sec.

Other Wycombe club times were: Stephen Row (25.05), Paul Newby (26.36), Harry Henley (27.41), Dave Baldwin (27.44) and Tony Briggs (28.27).
