LACK of publicity, apathy and a Women's Institute poster were all given as reasons why no members of the public bothered to turn up for a meeting this week.

Longwick-cum-Ilmer parish councillors sat waiting expectantly for the public for the annual parish meeting, which gives residents a chance to hear what the council has done in the year and ask questions.

Council chairman George Harper thanked the councillors for their work and said that maybe residents didn't have much to complain about.

Notices had been put up about the meeting, including one on a parish council noticeboard in Thame Road.

But Cllr Ian Walker said the notice had been obscured by a Women's Institute poster advertising one of its functions.

Cllr George O'Neill said: "I'm appalled that not a single parishioner is at this meeting. Surely it's the question of better publicising the events of the council."

Pam Priestley, Wycombe district councillor for Icknield, said that the parish council had previously posted notices through letter boxes.

The issue of publicity will be addressed before the next meeting.
