ALTHOUGH still in a state of flux, Hilary Blackham, the district commissioner, is hopeful that the 1st Gerrards Cross Rainbows will continue in September. A deadline of today when the Rainbows break for their summer holidays was given for new helpers to come forward to supervise the five to seven-year-olds.

"I have had some response and I am hoping to write to parents over the summer that the Gerrards Cross Rainbows will resume after the holiday break," says Mrs Blackham. The Rainbows have a waiting list of nearly 100 girls.

THE Careers Springboard is celebrating its tenth anniversary by holding a reunion for its 500 plus members, helpers and supporters on Monday, July 23.

The self-help group was formed in 1991 to help managers and professionals into work and draws its members from all over south Bucks. The reunion evening will be held at the club's regular meeting place at St Andrew's Church in Packhorse Road.

The club's next meeting on Monday evening will be addressed by Cornelia Steghart whose theme is Self Presentation on the Telephone.

NEWLY-ELECTED Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Dr Audrey Hogarth, will speak to members while the judges deliberate at the Gerrards Cross & Chalfonts Horticultural Society's Summer Show. Judging is on Thursday at 8pm at the Memorial Centre.

THE popular book fair returns to the Memorial Centre on Saturday, July 7. Buyers and sellers from miles around congregate at the centre from 10am to buy and browse at the 40 plus stalls. Refreshments are available.

TIN rattlers will be out in force around the village on Saturday, July 7, to coax shoppers to support MacMillan Cancer Relief.

A TASTER computer course offering a gentle introduction to the Internet for older students is set for the Memorial Centre on Tuesday. It is a one-day affair going on from 10am to 4pm and is free. CHRIS Chadwell launched the new programme of the Gerrards Cross & Chalfont St Peter Probus Club formerly the Retired Men's Club, on Wednesday morning.

Over the coming months, until Christmas, a wide range of speakers will be at St James' Church Hall talking about such varied subjects as Revelations of a Film Prop Buyer, The Unusual Experiences of a Far East POW, and A Trip to South Africa on the Union Castle.

WITH Faversham Meadows not taking part in the National Gardens Scheme this year, for keen gardeners one of the closest gardens open for inspection is that of Mr and Mrs Courtenay-Luck at the White House, Denham Village. It is open again on Sunday between 2pm and 5pm when the exquisite gardens bordering the River Misbourne can be admired at leisure. Children are admitted free but for adults the charge is £2. Teas are also available with contributions going to the Buckinghamshire Association of Youth Clubs.
