THE new Mayor of Beaconsfield was named as Nico Sacchetti at the town council's annual general meeting.

Cllr Sacchetti has been an Independent town councillor for two years and represents the West ward of the town.

He has lived in Beaconsfield since 1983 and formerly owned a family restaurant in New Denham.

Cllr Sacchetti thanked his predecessor Malcolm Dunlop for his work and added: "I am both privileged and honoured to be elected as town mayor and I am looking forward to serving all the people of Beaconsfield to the best of my ability. During my mayoral year, I hope to be able to bring about improvements to the cleanliness of Beaconsfield."

Cllr Graham Smith (Con, North Ward) was elected as deputy mayor of the town.

Cllr Bill Bridger (Ind, West Ward), departing deputy mayor, said: "I think it's a very good thing that the leadership of the council is moving into a younger group."
