FORMER England hockey player and World Cup and Olympic coach Sue Slocombe OBE has adapted her experiences on the field to the business environment.
Sue, who is an associate with Performance Consultants, spoke on improving performance when she was the guest speaker at last Thursday's Breakfast 2000 meeting at Adams Park. It was the second meeting this year co-hosted by Wycombe Wanderers and BKR Haines Watts chartered accountants.
She said: "There is a spark of greatness inside all of us. People can achieve goals if they have a dream.
"If they have a passion about something outside work what if we could capture some of this in business?"
Her talk, entitled Performance Improvement From IQ to EQ, discussed how the carrot-and-stick approach was no longer effective. The key to success she said, was to allow people to perform to a higher level because they wanted to, not because they have to.
Sue pointed to awareness and responsibility as key principles underpinning performance improvement which could be achieved through developing a high level of awareness and generating responsibility.
