A WYCOMBE Wanderers midfielder has received a special award as an unsung hero who has quietly made an outstanding difference in his field of expertise.
Steve Brown was presented with his Special Inspiration Award at the recent Windrush 2001 Achievement Awards, at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
Campaigner/administrator Sandra Webb, of XP Support in Great Missenden, received one of two awards in the Arts & Community category for her determined and committed role in helping to establish vital support for skin cancer patients.
The awards are the brainchild of Elaine Sihera, managing director of AnSer House of Marlow UK and editor of New IMPACT Journal, to recognise the achievements of minorities in the UK.
Elaine, who is included in a book, Black Achievers in Britain by the University of London, explained the ethos of the awards: "Windrush is not really about the individual or any one winner. It is about a group of people consistently starved of recognition themselves taking centre stage.
"It is about being accorded the merit they too deserve."
